The Gorge Near the Goat Farm
2012
acrylic on paper
11x15 inches
I visited this spot and others along the dirt road from Buonconvento toward Pieve a Salti in Tuscany in Oct. 2012. Gorgeous vistas, did this one in late afternoon one day. I am not a plein aire painter--one who does completed paintings on the spot outdoors the way the Impressionists did. But I do these studies to try to capture what I can see and how elements in the landscape relate to each other. The title refers to the fact that a herd of goats roamed up and down this road almost every day that I went there to paint. Only a couple of dogs were there to keep them from wandering off.
