These rock formations are fascinating and dramatic, rising up out of the flat plains. I interpreted them with my own colors. We stayed at the motel just outside the national park and witnessed a terrific show of lightning as thunderstorms moved gradually east, passing over us and illuminating the Badlands (which I understand the Native Americans call the White Hills, a more accurate description) in the flashes.
